In the past, making friends was a simple matter of making connections through school or a workplace, but those days are over for most seniors whose homes are now emptied as grown children start families or their own.

Regency Retirement Village of Huntsville is one resource for improving quality of life. We offer plenty of opportunities to be active and social while respecting a desire for privacy.

Independent Living involves an apartment with three delicious meals provided daily, weekly housekeeping, activities and much more. There’s no obligation to tour the building and interact with residents, staff and the management team. Many who do participate in the consultation feel much easier about transitioning from a private residence to a shared space.

Regency is more than just a building – it is a family.

Activities include performances from entertainers like Jack Lawless and Rebecca Mae, movies every third Tuesday night of the month, parties like this month’s Mardi Gras celebration, the crowning of the Valentine’s King and Queen, a Valentine’s Dance, birthday celebrations, games, outings to local stores and restaurants, and much more. The activities planned are listed on our website as well as our monthly newsletters.

Speaking of activities, Regency has recently added a new exercise class. The first Tuesday of each month, we do MOGA – a combination of yoga and meditation – in the sunroom. All exercises can be performed in a chair with the focus on breathing and stretching.

It’s also not uncommon for friendships to form between residents and our staff as we spend so much time with one another. Volunteering at Regency or another organization can strengthen ties as someone displays their warmth and compassion for others.

Experts say social interaction has many tangible benefits for seniors, including lowering blood pressure and helping with a variety of other conditions. Life is simply more enjoyable when we’re smiling and happy.

If making new friendships does not come easily to someone, Regency provides the nudge often needed to meet people and discover what they have in common. It’s important to feel safe, but we also crave the feeling that we belong somewhere and are loved. That’s a whole different level of feeling secure.
