regency-hsv2We have a variety of activities at Regency Retirement Village of Huntsville that enhance the quality of life for our residents.

Assisted Living Activities Director Terrence Francis, for example, encourages residents in Assisted Living and Independent Living to participate in arts and crafts class, whether it is painting birdhouses or figurines, making bean bag critters or floral arrangements and pottery, or charcoal drawings.

Arts and creativity in general have been found to have profound positive effects on seniors, especially those with Alzheimer’s. When done in combination with reminiscence activities, art therapy shows a person that their story is of value and interest to others. Not only that, but it’s a way of demonstrating to them that they are capable of adding beauty to the world for others to enjoy. Residents build relationships sharing the creative experience and develop a sense of control over their environment.

Earlier this year, Regency’s Assisted Living and Memory Care visited the Huntsville Museum of Art and had lunch at Pane E Vino Pizzeria back in April. The residents love such outings and can be found dining together at places like Texas Roadhouse, Chick-Fil-A, Victoria’s or other local establishments.

Huntsville offers a lot of great things for seniors to do. The 112-acre Huntsville Botanical Garden offers a tour of the azalea garden sector, ferns, day lilliies, Japanese sector, aquatic butterfly house, and much more. The Huntsville Railroad Depot, which was a key place during the Civil War, has a display of artifacts. Constitution Village is a compound where you can see the way things were in 1819 when delegates formed a constitution for the state.

Huntsville is known for the space program, and the US Space and Rocket Center is a showcase for that local history with 1,500 primary pieces on display, an IMAX Theater and tours. Big Spring Park is another local treasure in the community.

Regency is just a short distance from several great shopping options, including Wal-Mart and CostCo. Trips to the store are popular with Regency residents.

Regency also creates opportunities for socialization with events like the Wine and Cheese Luau Social, getting Mary Kay facials, listening to the Army Material Command Jazz Orchestra perform, or preparing for the Chopped Cook-off. Games are an important part of life at Regency, from board games to checkers and horseshoes.

All of the pieces come together to form a series of activities designed to enrich the lives of Regency residents.
